This event is the qualifier for Section Finals at Willow Hills in Folsom, CA on Saturday, November 11th, 2023.

The meet is about 90 minutes away and about 4000 runners are expected, so please prepare for traffic. All athletes should plan to arrive at 11. The parking lot is run by boy scouts and charges per car. I think it’s $6 and they only accept cash. There is no fee for admission to spectate. Boosters will bbq hotdogs and I will get there early to get a good spot.

West Park is responsible for managing the finishing shoot during the D1 and D2 races at subsections. This means that we need 1-2 parents for each 30 minute block between 12:30 and 4:00. My hope is that we can get 14 parent volunteers from varied race groups so that each parent can be fully present in their own kid’s race. I will also orchestrate with our “helper schools” to provide help and will assign athletes as assistants. Please email or text me if you can volunteer.

We have a great chance at advancing most teams to section finals, but that requires that everyone stay focused on great self care and diligent practices. I know that soccer tryouts begin this week, but school-sanctioned sports are not allowed to penalize athletes for prioritizing in-season sports. Please communicate to other coaches that your athlete is “in season” with Cross Country, so they can help make accommodations. Basketball has already reached out about athletes that plan to try out and are holding spots.
